large paws with long, dull claws
Scent
a very dull, earthy scent; faint and dustlike

Wrapped in taut, wiry muscles, Lucretia may not pack power or strength, but she excels in the realm of endurance. Tracking both prey and wolf alike, she can travels vast distances without too much strain and make good time. She is much smaller than most Caverunners, but she does not lack their durability and survivability. She also possesses her breed's badger-like claws, which are dull and not useful for fighting, but make digging an easier chore. Her smaller size allows her to dig smaller tunnels and slink her way through passages that most others of her breed would not bother to enter. Lucretia is agile among rough terrain, usually finding a place for her paws to be. In times when she does slip, she is often very able to regain herself while others might fall prey to the landscape. Among a tussle with other wolves, though she is most likely to submit or appease, she can sometimes evade an enemies attacks while only diving into an attack when she is confident in the possibility of doing damage.

Her furs match the dark caves from which she was born. Her pelt is a dark brown, with lighter shades dispersed among her pelt. Pure black furs do exist as well, also interspersed upon her. Her eyes are yellow.

Though her large paws stand out greatly to a wolf who's physique is more akin to a wingless Wind-Walker, she does maintain a calm and poised gait. While some learn to carry themselves aggressively to dissuade potential attackers, Lucretia carries herself calmly, attempting to slip past the attention of unaware enemies.

She is non-emotive and bland on first encounters and toward wolves she has no business with. However, if an encounter lingers, and her attention is held, those with keen eyes might be able to read her perception of a wolf from her behavior. She may become more friendly, more curious, or maybe even more toying and testing if she feels these are the right actions to impress her audience. Though she does change her behavior slightly to suit the crowd, she does not totally dress the part. Her voice is always soft and quiet, with a unique dryness that might interest some. It is her choice of words and slight body language that really reveal her true opinions. A rise in her volume or tone denotes annoyance and anger, which only occurs when she feels she has lost the option to talk her way out of a situation. It usually worsens the situation, but allows her an immediate sense of new found power being able to speak her mind since she's lost everything.

Lucretia is not a ray of sunshine, and she isn't so obvious as to fake a bubbly personality. Her presence does not bring life and vigor, but at the very least, her calm tone and mannerisms can bring peace if emotions are high. It is true however, that her real opinions and thoughts are never voiced unless in like-minded company. Or unless she is pushed to the limits of her self control. Inherently distrustful and unamused by wolves, the bulk of Lucretia's true thoughts are negative and wroth with a mentality of “manipulating them before they manipulate me”. It is the reason why Lucretia puts a lot of effort into altering her behavior based on her company. She may attempt to be entertaining by telling stories and fabricated situations, or engaging in light conversation in order to try to make her company more comfortable. Such changes she makes, however, are based on her best guesses as to the temperament and intentions of her company. There have been many, many times where she has assumed wrong.

Her contorted philosophy based on her own personal views on the Goddess of Death has encouraged her to always be on the lookout for an opportunity. She is constantly looking for allies and is always looking to weasel her way into a powerful wolf's side. While promises can be immediately meaningful or meaningless to some, to Lucretia they are powerful tools in either gaining or utilizing the trust of others. Willing to do anything and barter anything, Lucretia easily tries to meet the needs of an ally. One might find it strange that for a she-beast who seeks to lie, cheat, and steal her way in life, she fulfills her promises more often than not and goes to great lengths to do as she is asked. This is mostly due to her secret need to feel useful and worthy, rather than reaping what she wants at little effort.
Not physically capable of forcing her will on others, her mind is constantly working to find the right moment. Each and every ally she deals with are eventually seen to be gotten rid of once they have fulfilled their use. Doing so assumes she has enough power to safely free herself from them, which has yet to be tested.
At the poor end of a deal, she has a few tricks up her sleeve as well when it comes to being manipulative. She pretends to use witchcraft, employs magic and mind tricks, as well as bluffing about the power of karma. Relying heavily on diction and her perception of others, she can sometimes talk her way out of situations, but she is not at all charismatic as she lacks the charm and wit. Many don't fall victim to her wiles, but those who do might enjoy the show she puts on simply to gain their trust and allegiance. Those who understand her game might enjoy watching her crawl.

Those who observe her character often may easily deduce that Lucretia is as hollow as her care for others. She has nothing real to base her self worth on and hence seeks to rob others of their accomplishments. Virtues like love, happiness, pleasure, loyalty, trust, and selflessness are sneered at or mocked by her internal voice. Simply viewing situations involving these virtues can cause her conflicting feelings of apathy and jealousy. If ever given trust, love, or acts of care, she can be puzzled and often startled. Evident in her internal monologues is a repressed desire for companions whom she can trust, love, and enjoy their companionship. This unresolved need is her biggest weakness. Though she will most likely sell out any companions who have not broken her shell, the relationship can cause her hesitation in fulfilling the task. Wolves keen on behavior might pick up on her hidden needs and seduce and woo her into blind devotion.

Lucretia's mind has warped her past into nothing but memories of weakness and failure. She remembers select scenes of being used, toyed with, and pushed to an inch of her life, but she will be the first to admit that she does not know for sure if they actually happened, were over-embellishments, or simply nightmares.

She remembers being a young child among others. Among the earth, the hollows, and the Caverunners. Somewhere in the southern lands of Adymeria, beneath the surface, she was born and raised. Lucretia would later remark that the population of this hole was due to the dreams of a few who wished to create a life for themselves. This transparent dream was mired by philosophies of physical might championed by Sol. Order, structure, hierarchy, and strength were the end all and be all of all matters and issues in the Hole. The leaders dreamed of creating a large metropolis that stretched far and wide with a center room that would have a stream of sunlight in the day. Needless to say, the dream was never achieved and the work done to achieve such a goal was pathetically minimal.

But, as said before, she remembered being a young child among others. Within the lot of age-mates were two others who carried her same scent – litter mates. And yet she could never remember an adult claiming her as their own. Females bred often, forgetting the names of the sires just as much. High ranking members could claim the strongest pups as their own, and adopt them into their bloodline regardless of heritage. The odd family lines this created could no doubt only be created here in the Hole. Elsewhere they would be shamed and their adopted “children” called nothing more than bastards.
Lucretia was named as such by her wetnurse, and only later would Lucretia herself take on the surname of her two litter mates during her adolescence. Fed and nursed, but not cared for, Lucretia grew as a number among the others who were unselected. She remembers the children as monsters more than the adults. While those older were simple, loud, commanding voices, they could turn into mere presences in the backdrop of the drama unfolding among their young. The children, raised to be strong, tough, and to force their place in the world, knew the meaning of life and death early. By the time these youngsters were 6 months old, the number of Unselected dwindled sharply. Many went “lost” in the caves.

Evading the wrath of the older ones and the cruelty of her agemates became her specialty. Though others would find her when she hid or fled, she was often hard to catch. Eventually, Lucretia herself was one who had “lost” herself in the caves. Away from those who lived in the Hole, she found herself running from cave beasts and surface monsters as well. But which was better? It had always been made apparent that she was among the weakest and unwanted. Around the age of 7 months, she disappeared from the main cave systems. Some days she'd dig herself to nowhere, satisfying the need to run and take some charge of her existence. Other days determination and anger would fuel her desire to scavenge among the surface. Outside the Hole she could feel so wild and untethered, yet still controlled and unprotected. It was as exhilarating as frightening. She would disappear from the Hole for days at a time, but always returning for food. Some days the older ones would catch that she had left and forgotten her duties, to which she would receive harsh punishment. But on other days she was just a number and overlooked. It encouraged her to continue being a ghost among many.

Adolescence saw the finalization of Lucretia's character. Despite spending more time on the surface than in the Hole, and hence interacting with other breeds as well as her kind, her opinions of others were always negative before they even had a chance to open their mouth. Her life's pleasures became mental in the form of interpreting her own subservient or passive-aggressive actions as acts of defiance in some way. Mental commentary on other creatures' character, motivations, and mannerisms humored her and allowed her a sense of imaginary self-worth. As sexual maturity arrived, violence, humiliation, and all that was vile struck her fancy. Her mind had made every weakness a strength in some way.

She remembers being everything from tracker, huntress, scout, pupsitter, a companion to the males, and an herbalist. She enjoyed her work as scout and herbalist the most, but her lack of trustworthiness made it sure that the leaders would place her as an assistant in digging traps for the hunters. Her excitement in life came from her thoughts and the daydreams of power she would never have.
She does not remember what finally gave her the courage to leave the Hole. She would remark that she simply had the thought to leave and must have finally decided to do so. Whether this is true or not might not ever be known due to Lucretia's strange memory. The timing however might have had something to do with it as it was nearing the second breeding season. She had serviced many males her first season, and she did have pups resulting from it. She had chosen to kill each newborn that came from her. Remarking on this story, Lucretia gives many answers as to why she chose to do this, often revealing new answers when asked again. Her calm voice and lack of visible reactions as she tells the story adds merit to her apathy then and now, but one can wonder.

Life outside the Hole was like starting fresh. It was as if she was a yearling from the functional Caverunner packs who could chose their eventual role in their home. The possibilities were endless and yet the opportunities seemed few. Lucretia was a scavenger for most of her days, avoiding wolves wherever they appeared, and living day by day.
Lucretia once again does not remember a “moment” when her mindset changed. She had heard whispered stories of the Goddess of Death in her wanderings. Though no admirer of the infamous lady ever spoke to Lucretia, she soon found herself fantasizing and romanticizing the tale of power and cruelty. She wanted to be her – to somehow be as powerful as the Goddess. The philosophy of taking what she wanted, rather than taking what she could made the dream of power more real than a fantasy. And the thought of doing as she willed at the expense of others excited her.

But who was she in comparison to a goddess known for such power and cruelty? The reality was that those who followed the Goddess of Death were probably more likely to control Lucretia just like those of the Hole did. The reality was that if the Goddess ever gazed at the lowly Lucretia, she would most likely deem her forever weak. But even here weakness and harsh truth converted to power and hope.
It is not the nature of the world to prey on the weak, as I had once thought. What do the weak have for the strong to take? The role of the weak is to die or get stronger. The role for the strong is to stay strong and not become weak. The true nature of the world is to prey on the strong. The weak bide their time, lapping at each and every mistake of their masters, and the strong cut short the time of their rivals.

Philosophy or Delusion? You may be the judge of that.
