Quick Description
tusks that grow from his bottom jaw
bear-like claws useful in digging
Simeon is your average caverunner. His physique is much less stocky than most in his breed, as he is made for agility rather than strength. With only basic combat training and the preference to talk his way out of a fight or simply submit, Simeon has not become a proven fighter. He prefers the use of magic, deception, and the support of others to get out of tricky situations. With some training however, his body could become very well muscled and adept at traversing rough terrain.

There nothing really fantastic about Simeon. His appearance is rather dull compared to the other caverunners he's lived with. His base coat is a dull tan with darker browns along the ridge of his nose, blanketing his ears, and interspersed with black and gray along his spine. A black spot of fur sits on his tail, while the most of it is tan like the rest of him. A cream to white color paints his underbelly, his muzzle and neck, the back of his legs, and his inner thighs. Large, black, bear-like claws sprout from his toes, allowing him to dig quite easily, as well as break the hardest of soils. He sometimes likes to sculpt stone and other objects in his free time, which he isn't the best of artists, but could possibly learn to master. Lastly, his eyes are a bright amber, without the ethereal glow that a few in his breed possess.

Boars tusks have grown from his bottom jaw, impeding his speech slightly, but he had grown used to it and speaks fluently. His speech is quiet airy, with 'S's sounding like whispers. With two tusks jutting out from his lips, labial consonants ('p', 'b', 'f', 'v', etc) are often spoken with a huff of air before the consonant sound, often pronounced as another, is spoken. This gives his voice a burly and gruff feel to it.
Both his tusks and claws continually keep growing, and need to be constantly used so that they do not grow to unmanageable heights. Both his tusks and claws may fall out, and as long as it does not create an injury, they will simply regrow.

On first appearances, Simeon is a calm male who has a scholarly air to him. His diction is lofty, and occasionally some of the more common folk might need clarification on words that might be rarely used or words even from other languages. As the child of a beta pair, Simeon does not think of life as “one day at a time”. A prosperous life so far has allowed him to make decisions based on long term effects. He takes his time on many things, and it is seen in his gait, as well as his pauses before he speaks. He appears curious and amiable, but it is easy to note that he seems a but less empathetic than most normal wolves.

Simeon lives within his mind. He is analytical and observant, possessing an eclectic mind with an excellent memory that retains and stores random bits of information that might one day be of use. It is something that he and his brother had made a game throughout their lives – to upstage the other with new bits of information that had been learned. Hence, Simeon enjoys learning new things and doesn't mind hearing pointless stories that go nowhere. “Everything has a use.” He is a great problem-solver, as he thinks quite logically and realistically. “Disassemble and put back together. View the pieces, view the whole.” His actions are often very precise, and he can accomplish great things without the assistance of others. His mind is always working and churning new information and ideas that even during times when he is set in his mind, he responds without hurry. Whilst conversing with others, he opens his mouth long before words come from him. A moment will pass before he speaks as he still thinks over the words he has chosen to say. Interestingly enough, it is this that allows him to not be as hesitant as he could be. As he is always thinking, it is often simple for him to make decisions. It is also why he is so charismatic, as he can think of the intentions, behavior, and past actions of another to determine the best way to respond to others.

Not only can his constantly working brain cause him to over think simple issues, but his thinking style of only making use of concrete information makes it so that Simeon stumbles when emotions get involved. Wolves who are wrestling with conflict within themselves and hence give conflicting messages are hard for Simeon to grasp, and hence work his charm over. These wolves frustrate him greatly, though you might never know. On the outside he is patient. While he can be a very controlling ally and friend, encouraging you take a certain action, never budging on his advice to you, and also using charisma to manipulate you to a “beneficent” end, he will let you make the final decision if you have the will to go against him. He is not the sort to say “I told you so” if he was right in the end, though he does secretly resent those who make things difficult. He is, however, a reliable friend, who will often aid you when you least expect it.

When it comes to his own emotions, Simeon does not seem to have trouble identifying them and dealing with them. Though it still takes time for him to determine whether some of his feelings have merit or are simply the responses of his primal self. Hatred is an emotion that Simeon thinks he keeps in check, but he is quite vengeful. Wolves known to be criminals, rapists, bullies, and thugs receive no mercy from him. And he takes pleasure in torturing those vile wolves who find themselves in a place of weakness. Emotions like love and sadness are the emotions that give him the most trouble, and if he has not confronted his emotions, he will not open up about them. He does not like talking about himself as he finds himself hard to explain and will get frustrated if a crowd lingers on him too long. He does however like being appreciated, and though he might not ask for a thank you for his aid, the words or gifts he gains in response are cherished. Though he may seem emotionless, he does like feeling positive emotions and likes those who rouse up said emotions.

Simeon is a calm wolf, showing very little negative emotions and only muted positive ones. He does not mind genuine emotion, but he believes extreme emotions that are uncontrolled is not only foolish but also drawing unnecessary attention to one's self. His beliefs in Luna allows him to gain his pride from his actions and skills rather than the respect of others. He believes Luna is a caring mother, encouraging introspection, modesty, and intelligence. Fighting in any way but head on is honorable to him. Manipulating the weakness of a much stronger opponent is being crafty and smart. To go unnoticed in infamy is a virtue, while making a scene for one's fame is a vice. Luna will help those who cannot help themselves, but she encourages all her children to learn to take care of themselves and achieve power in this world. Gaining a relationship with the Goddess with offerings and celebrations increases her desire to aid you, and so Simeon gives offers to Luna often.

Simeon and his brother's beliefs were quite different than that of his pack, and hence Simeon is no stranger to rebelling against tradition. “Actions without meaning are just that, meaningless.” Certain ceremonies were done for no real reason other than it was a tradition, which Simeon frequently chose not to attend. Violent acts that are not for the defense of Luna's children are seen as unnecessary bloodshed to Simeon. Respecting wolves simply because of their genealogy is silly to Simeon, who rather, often provokingly, encourages highborns to prove their worth rather than parading around about it. And then there was the issue of Sol worshipers who were often found and executed. Simeon had always saw no need to be so aggressive to the region's Sol worshipers, as they were smaller in numbers. He believed they would in fact eventually band together if his own packs continued their onslaught. But his pack believed in the vengeful Luna, the “tough love” Luna, and felt it was her desire to be rid of those who worshiped her foe. They did not believe in the calm Luna who preferred to undercut and debilitate her foe than more overt means. Because of Simeon's differing views, he can sometimes be known to trifle with established customs and beliefs that have very real magical consequences. But he has yet to be cursed. Yet.

Culwich Aobarius had worked his way through the Sterling Warren's hierarchy and had found himself named Beta male at the age of 5. Strong, smart, and equipped with a silver tongue, some might say Culwich had an easy time climbing the ladder. His quickness to anger and open bouts of rage, however had made his climb difficult, and only when he learned to control his passion did success find him. To secure alliance with the neighboring pack of Beliot Barrow, Culwich agreed to enter an arranged marriage with Beliot Barrow's beta Gladys Rose of the Verona family.
Gladys Rose was not as well liked within her pack as Culwich was in his, but she too was an intelligent adviser to the Beliot family. She was always friendly in public and did not possess anger issues, but she was extremely forceful when speaking to pack wolves and outsiders individually. She worked well to intimidate unfavorable diplomats and arrogant pack members.

The two would travel between packs, but would birth their children in Beliot Barrow. To them were born Charlotte, York, Simeon, and Eustace Aobarius. As newborns, they would be tended to by pleasant pup-sitters whose soothing songs they would remember over their parent's rare encouraging words. As pups, their personalities would bloom. Charlotte, the eldest and only girl, would grow to be just like her mother – smiles among others and a sternness one-on-one. Eustace, the youngest would grow spoiled and fawned over by the pupsitters. He would be mostly interested in tending to his good looks and demanding tribute to his charm and family name. York and Simeon, the middle children, would constantly challenge each other in the realm of knowledge. Pack histories, ancient words, foreign languages, the strategies of successful warlords, mysterious lore, and all manner of scholarly knowledge was gained for the sake of upstaging the other. They loved to hate each other, and despite often becoming sore at being ridiculed for not knowing something the other knew, they were quite close.

Both were fairly oddballs of their family. Calm and quiet, but often excitable and outgoing. The main difference between the twin-like brothers came from which of their parent's packs they preferred to study under. York preferred the pack of their den: Beliot Barrow. The Barrow was the alpha's family catacombs, and hence shrouded in lore and the fame of long dead beings. The mysteries of the spiritual world fascinated York greatly, and he would learn the philosophies of many magics as a youth.
Simeon preferred the Sterling Warren, a stern pack lead by a ruling family very set on creating an underground fortress that could withstand enemies from the surface. The Warren had once been a place where exiled males were tossed, but now their families thrived under the rule of Alpha Carolle Genard. In the Warren, Simeon learned of the secret messages between those forced to stay in these dark caves and those they knew outside it. He learned of strong and respected leaders falling at the height of their power due to a simple rumor. Simeon became fascinated with the power of language and interaction, and how much more it could do than a bite from an enemy. He would observe the actions of his parents and the other ranked members of the pack, and make predictions of where they would be by the next season. He guessed that Alpha Carolle Genard would rule till his death. If it was one thing that the two brothers could agree on was their slightly different belief in the deity of Luna, whom was worshiped by both packs. Luna was the stern mother with a mantra of tough love. She would punish harshly and had no pleasure in those who did not show their respects to her. Offerings, solemn ceremonies, and fearful self-harming rituals were done in Luna's honor. It was York who had first spoke to his brother about the idea that Luna was a kindly mother – a caretaker rather than an authority figure. While others were made weak by the threat of Luna's scorn, Simeon and York went unaffected.

Both brother's grew to believe that it was not the nature of a families bloodline that gave high-bloods their power, but rather the factor of nurture. The automatic scorn that the low ranking family lines, called “rats” in both packs, were believed unwarranted by the two Aobarius brothers. While in the Barrow wolves used their common religion to forge friendships, the Warren had no such bonding factor. Rats were born weak, would always be weak, and could be expected to be of no use. They were rats: creatures that were an annoying nuisance, only existing because they could not be gotten rid of. The two brothers pitied these wolves – York feeling that all should know that they were equal in Luna's eyes, and Simeon feeling that the labels given to them were self-fulfilling prophecies and not their true nature.

Simeon's youth became centered around a group of oddballs all born from the “rats” of the pack. Clement, a shy male. Tercero, a male who wished to use Simeon to help him and his family out of their low class status. Laelia, a quiet girl with hidden vengeance and passions. Maeve, the perfect mage child of the Solomon family, though she desired healing magic rather than the offensive magic she was forced to learn. And then Bellona, the angry, rough and tough female of rare wisdom.
As one could imagine, Simeon's parents did not like their son interacting with “rats”. Simeon was able to get his father off his back by pointing out the similarity between he and the misfits.
“Father, assumptions are often foolish and ill-gained. Did you not say yourself that many assumed you to be nothing but an uncontrollable youth? To be put down in order to retain the peace of the place? The discipline you have gained now proves them wrong. Why am I to accept the poor assumptions of others when my own inferences, as well as first hand knowledge, say otherwise?”
His mother was no where near as easy, and Simeon remembers being very nervous to eventually be asked to have a word with her. The conversation came one early morning when Simeon was about to travel back to the Warren from the Barrow. She cut right to the chase and told him that if he wanted to play with rats that he could be one. An argument ensued where Simeon fought hard to try to convince his mother that there was worth in his friends. He tried every rhetorical trick he could muster, but his mother would not budge. At the end of it, he hoped she would not follow through with her thread of disowning him. She would go on to ignore him for some time, as if she was not his mother, but she never did publicly disown Simeon. And Simeon remained and Aobarius.

With the help of his brother, Simeon would raise the respect of Clement and Maeve, who became a skilled tracker and healer respectively. Things ended badly for Tercero who did not take to heart Simeon's words of “Luna herself can strike me down, but I am not my brother's keeper. You are in control of your lives, not I.” He was an unstable element that eventually did himself in. Conspiring to poison the Lead Hunter whom his father was desiring to challenge, he fell victim the same poison he attempted to use. Simeon had gotten word that Tercero was thinking of attempting such a thing, but instead reported that he had died to a foreign plant he had ingested.
Laelia would fall under a deep depression and run away into the darkness of the caves. Though Simeon and York took a day to find her, no one else cared to look. And lastly, Bellona. Who was a different story entirely.

Found when she was only 5 months old, the pack's nurses took her in and raised her. Since the start she was aggressive and paranoid of others. Her abrasive personality and lack of a known heritage made her disliked in the pack's eyes, and she remained in the under class after she was no longer under the charge of the nurses. Rough and tough, Bellona was overt, aggressive, but had a wisdom about her to see through the intentions of others. Charisma did not work on her, only tangible evidence could change her mind, if she was willing to even see it. One could argue that all the misfits were pet projects to Simeon, but it was mostly true with Bellona who resisted everything he threw at her. The deepest problem with this tough girl was that she had internalized the notion that she was unwanted and worthless. She was never trained in anything, and never asked to aid in tasks. She was left to simply exist within the pack. She never ate at kills and instead ate the grubs, scraps, and meals she and the other misfits hunted together within the caves. She had no hopes or dreams, and each day was just existence, never a new day in the path of life. Simeon pitied her and felt that all that strength and passion were going to waste.

Nearing adulthood, a freak accident within a hunt took Alpha Carolle's life away. A jackalope escaped from a trap and caused a long chase and tracking through the caves. An area of cave outside the pack range of both packs caved in, crushing Carolle and killing him instantly. His mate was left bereaved, and his family pondering a successor. With many family issues and disagreements, many of the family were deemed unworthy heirs. With the pack and even some of the Genard family, the Sterling Warren surprisingly promoted their beta to alpha. Culwich Aobarius would be an unwilling alpha, but would do his best in this position. With help from his two sons, he would gain pack stability within the month of his coronation. York encouraged more ceremonies in Luna's honor that focused on togetherness, and Simeon encouraged his father to inspire loyalty by remembering Carolle an emphasizing the strength and history of the pack.

Months later, an open trial was performed for the youths to see who might claim the position of heir. Many of the pack's youths entered. The trial tested intelligence, strength, and charisma. Though well liked, the two Aobarius brothers were average in all other skills, so it surprised many to see the two males come first and second in the trails. For the brothers, their competition with each other had drove them to train and study harder than ever before. It was almost thought that this would be the end all and be all of their competition. In the end, York was crowned heir. The strength of their bond did not falter with this, surprisingly, as even the brothers had though. Instead they remained the same, toying and supportive as they were.

Now an adult, and with many of his agemates grown up and dealing with their own lives, Simeon grew closer to York and Bellona. With York, he would be introduced to interaction with the spirit world. Simeon soon would gain the power of Mimicry, that he and York attributed to the personal offerings to Luna that they gave to her. It was a skill he learned quickly and easily, using it often to mess with both York and Bellona. His father would appoint him to “Intelligence Gatherer”, which Simeon would find great pleasure in. With his nature and his new power, he would get his first taste of organized espionage.

Meanwhile he found himself growing extremely fond of Bellona. Something had triggered within her to begin training as a fighter. As many could suspect, she had a natural talent and personality for it. She grew to love finding hidden strength within herself and wrestling opponents that ranked higher than her to the ground. Simeon was amazed at the change in his friend, and he grew fond of their pleasant interactions. Soon their encounters grew more intimate. One day York confronted his brother and asked him curiously what he was to do. “I suppose... I'll ask her to be mine.” To which York smiled and replied that he hoped to be as brave as him when he finds a lover for himself. To be heir to the throne and accept his lover, who may not rank anywhere near him, would cause great controversy. “I don't feel brave. I couldn't care less what mother thinks – she can have her chance to formally disown me if she wills it, but... I feel Bellona feels that same as I do... but I think she won't accept.” His brother encouraged him that everything would go splendidly, and gave him Luna's blessing.

It was only a few days later that Simeon asked for Bellona to be his mate. It was at an old cave entrance that the old misfits used to habit, under the moonlight with fireflies of course. The usually calm and poised Simeon had set up nothing special and hoped that his genuine words would banish any doubts she had away. He began by speaking highly of her, perhaps too highly for a creature who still thought so little of herself. He described how he cherished their friendship and went on to call himself “Simeon Mithra.” Mithra being the last name he had given all of the misfits to show them he would stand with them and consider them family. And then he went on to call her “Bellona Mithra,” the air of nervousness making it apparent what he meant by it. As he predicted, she declined, feeling she was not worthy to be mated to an Aobarius, whom she considered a highborn. He attempted to remind her of his father's work to get to such a position – that it was not his bloodline that gave him any perks. The Aobarius line was not highborn in his eyes, and he believed it didn't matter. He was willing to give up his name to be with her. She was still anxious and so he said that the two could discuss it, and that a decision didn't need to be made now. Unfortunately, further talks on the matter strained the relationship and the two would have a falling out. Simeon felt so angry at Bellona for suddenly putting weight on a name that meant nothing to him. He later on went as far to get rid of his last name and publicly state that he was now not part of the family. The truth of the matter, that Bellona could not communicate, was that she was always intimidated by Simeon who seemed to handle things so well when they occurred. She did feel that she loved him, but her lack of self-worth continually mocked her. She would focus her emotions on her training, while Simeon focused on his craft.

After a while, as Simeon's goals changed, he desired to start fresh, and even to start his own pack. He pondered whether success would find him, or only ruin. He was allowed to leave the pack with no strings attached because the pack was fairing well and had somewhat become the fortress of the underground as the Sterling Warren's past leaders had hoped. He said goodbye to his brother and friend, and let them know where he desired to travel, so that if for some reason they wished to relay a message to him, that they may.
