Bastiels life hasn't been bunnies and rainbows. At the time she was born a rich and fruitful land hand began to turn unfertile and barren. War and chaos had started to run rampent throughout the land, burning and killing everything in its path. This was the fault of a new king that decided he would try to fight nature instead of living with it. He began to tear down the homes of the guardians of the lands and while some just simply disappeared, others decided to fight back. The fights between wolf and the guardians were relentless. Many wolves died for a cause they did not believe in and few turned against their own kind. Many mothers lost their pups so that they could be raised to fight, some mothers started to seek refuge in the forests only to be chased out by the guardians that no longer trusted wolves. Some mothers, like Bastiels, started to wander between packs, leaving their children in hidden coves and crooks to keep them from the warriors.
Bastiel had moved around all her life, sometimes being found by warriors and her mother paying a "fair" in return for their silence. Bastiel never knew her own name or even her mothers as they changed every time they moved to a new place. Bastiel had to fake a number of things, blindness, deafness, mute, ect. to gain the pity of others for her mother as she got older. Eventually pups were no longer being torn from their mothers, and Bastiel and her mother were safe, but out of habit they kept roaming. They roamed until one day her mother fell in love, or rather was expecting to bear new pups. As she settled down she decided on a name, Asmaralda Lumar. Lumar being the father of her new pup's last name. Bastiel was pretty much left on her own from this point on.
At a year, Bastiel had become cold and distant from most others. She left her mother and her new brothers and sisters to live her life the only way she remembers that had made her happy, as a vagabond. She moved around, giving random names to prying wolves. She wandered until one day, she saw them.
The Guardians.
The guardians of the forest were large, towering creatures with only two sets of legs that took up most of their body and a head. Two sets of black eyes and a small mouth are the only thing that make up their face. They saw her before she saw them, this she had been certain of. She had been wandering through the woods when she heard a humming noise. She turned to see the white figures between the trees. At first she growled, but then they continued humming and walking around her. They seemed almost awkward on their feet. Some seemed hurt, light blue whelps and scars were on top of what she took to be skin. The humming was beautiful, and before long she started to hum too. It was moments before sunrise before she became aware of herself again, this was when she noticed that the Guardians had started to seat themselves by the trees and turn into them their selves. This was when her glowing began. Stripes that she had never knew existed began to throb with the bright color. The energy began to sap out of her, as she walked over to one of the seated Guardians and lay her head in its lap.
After that night, Bastiel had made it her mission to stop the fight with the Guardians of the land. She traveled from place to place, seeking help from everyone who would listen, telling them her story. Not many listened, many thought it was the sound of a crazed lunatic, or that she had been possessed. She had been chased from pack to pack, always alone. Then she came to, what she would find out to be, the main compound where the king called home. As she spoke, one of the kings sons found her and captured her. She was presented to the king, and was imprisoned for treachery to the lands. She was tortured for information she didn't have for what seemed like decades. Getting nothing out of her, the king called for the council of the lesser pack alphas to decide what was to be done.
After days and days of the council debating what was to be done it was decided that she would be a slave to one of the Alphas, her only job to provide him with food, a clean den, and entertainment. It was also decided that after she bore him a heir she would be killed. This was her first introduction to pack life.
Year 2-3
It didn't take long for the alpha to start abusing Bastiel, she was raped as punishment and thrown around for fun. She despised the brute she was bound to, but needed him to survive. She kept her head down and began to recede into herself. She dreamed of bringing down the kingdom to a crumbling mass, but with no one to help her she knew she would just die. After months of living in the dark, the Beta came to Bastiel. He spoke nicely to her, with a silver tongue. He told her how he would help her, and how they could work together to restore peace. She began to believe him and trust him. The Beta named Dask had followers and believers, something she didn't have.
After a few months it happened. First it was just their pack, then the next and so on and so forth until Bastiel and Dask had taken all the packs from under the King. It wasn't long before Dask himself challenged the wolf, and he won. Dask then asked Bastiel to be his mate and rule with him.
Peace swept the land, the Guardians were happy and so were the wolves. They lived in harmony with very few abnormal problems. Bastiel was known to go out and dance and sing with the guardians often, and some started to follow her. The followers soon found themselves glowing just like Bastiel, and while some saw this as a cursed mark, others saw it as a blessing. Over time Bastiel became pregnant with her mates pups, her belly swelled and as most first time mothers are, she was over joyed. Bastiel had her pups in the presence of the guardians, their song ringing loud and happier than she had ever heard it before. It was a litter of six healthy pups, pups that were blessed from birth. The guardians closed in around her, curious about the new life in the forest dancing away and singing joyously as they saw the pups.
The next morning Dask found her and his pups in a ring of trees that seemed to be bent over her, almost like a shield. Seeing his pups glowing faintly, he became instantly furious and started to tear at the trees viciously. Bastiel raised quickly in the defense of the sleeping guardians, only to be struck down and knocked out by her mate. He began to yell incoherently and thrash about. In his fit of rage he stepped on, and crushed one of the pups. The packs wet nurse came with a few others to take the pups to a safe place, but left the dead pup.
Bastiel woke up confused, it took her a moment to figure out her surroundings and what had happened. Jumping up, she came face to face with Dask. He kicked the dead pup aside, and Bastiel attacked as he did. She hadn't regained her full strength from the birth, and so she was beaten. Dask made it apparent that he was trying to kill her, ripping at her throat and face. He left her for dead in the forest, kicking the pups corpse into her face as he left.
Bastiel cried. She cried for her pups that she was certain had suffered the same fate as the one she was now nuzzling, she cried for her friends the guardians, and she cried in anger for her ex-mate. She soon blacked out from loss of blood.
When she came to again night had fell and the guardians were gathered around her. They seemed relieved when she awoke, anxious noises turning into pleased hums. Bastiel spoke to the guardians, she warned them of what she was expecting to come. They did not seem to be phased, but instead started to dance. They motioned for what she could only guess to be for her to follow them, and so she did. As she followed the numbers started to get thinner and thinner until only one was before her. She wasn't sure that she had seen this guardian before, it was tall, taller than all the rest of the guardians and it didn't move as awkwardly. It pointed with one log leg into the distance and began to sing a deep and sorrowful song. She suddenly understood what the song meant, what all the songs had meant. This one though broke her heart. They sang of how she must leave to save her land and how they would die by morning but not to fret for they wouldn't be truly dead until she stopped telling their story. They told her that the trees will guide her and that they will be waiting to welcome her with her newborn son when she finally goes home.
Bastiel rubbed fondly against the leg of the guardian and howled at the sky, singing her own song of how sorry she was, how she loved them and how she looked forward to the day when they would dance again. After that, she began to run. She ran until she came
to Adymeria.
